This guide shows you how to create and manage templates for your KVM virtual machines in Server Monkey Cloud VPS. Templates allow you to save VM configurations for quick deployment of identical servers.

Step 1: Access Templates Section

Navigate to the Templates section from your Server Monkey dashboard. Click on "Templates" in the left sidebar menu to access template management.
Login to your Server Monkey client area
From the left sidebar, click on "Templates" (highlighted in the navigation)
You'll see your service overview and resource usage
The Templates section is located under the main navigation menu

Step 2: View Templates List

Access the templates management page to view existing templates and create new ones. Click the "Add Template" button to start creating a new template from your virtual machine.
You'll see the Templates page with a list of existing templates
The table shows NAME and DESCRIPTION columns for each template
If no templates exist, you'll see "No Data Available" message
Click the green "Add Template" button (top right) to create a new template
Templates don't consume resources like CPU, memory, or disk space

Step 3: Create New Template

Configure your new template by selecting a virtual machine and adding a description. Remember: Converting a VM to template will consume the original virtual machine permanently.
Important Warning:
The virtual machine will be converted to a template
This process is irreversible - you cannot convert it back to a VM
Make sure you have backups if needed
Template Configuration:
Virtual Machine: Select from dropdown (e.g., "Test VM")
Description: Add a clear description (e.g., "For testing purposes")
This helps identify the template's purpose later
Final Steps:
Review your selections carefully
Click red "Confirm" button to create the template
Click "Cancel" if you want to abort the process

Important Notes

Before Creating Templates:
Ensure the VM is properly configured and ready
Install all necessary software and configurations
Clean up temporary files and logs
Shut down the VM properly before conversion
Template Benefits:
Quick deployment of identical server configurations
Consistent environment setup
Save time on repetitive installations
Standardize server configurations across your infrastructure
Template Limitations:
Original VM is destroyed during conversion
Cannot be reversed back to a virtual machine
Templates are specific to KVM virtualization
No resource consumption (CPU, RAM, disk) for stored templates
Best Practices:
Use descriptive names for easy identification
Document template contents and configurations
Create templates from clean, optimized VMs
Test templates thoroughly before production use
Keep template inventory organized and up-to-date

Managing Existing Templates

Once templates are created, you can:
View: See all templates in the main list
Edit: Modify template descriptions and settings
Delete: Remove templates that are no longer needed
Deploy: Use templates to create new virtual machines quickly
